The Laundry List
Laundry + stain removal tips from the Wm Brown team, NYC’s greatest dry cleaner and… Matt’s mom
I love doing laundry. Back when I was a photographer working with Martha Stewart, I had the pleasure of being on set with her on several laundry photo shoots. I learned a lot from her—I always use her hack for getting wine stains out of kitchen linens—boiling water poured from a tea kettle. And no matter how many times I move, I’ll never get rid of her book The Homecleaning Handbook, which was published in 2006, and is basically a bible on cleaning everything. But really, my mom Carmie was my first teacher, and set me off on my laundry-obsessed path. In my constant quest for laundry tips, I recently discovered Zach Pozniak from Jeeves and the book he wrote with his dad Jerry called The Laundry Book—and I’m so excited to have them (and my mom!) weigh in below. Lastly, Eric, our deputy editor who is equally laundry obsessed, shares a laundry tip that is also chivalrous. We spend money on nice things and they should stay in good shape as long as possible—good laundering techniques are at the foundation of this!
