This July I turned 57. I set a goal for myself to get in the best possible shape I could before my birthday on July 21. I had about a month. I curbed my eating, tempered my drinking (as much as possible), and texted Alex Rosen. Alex is a trainer I have been working with off and on for a few years. He is sympathetic to my lifestyle—my travel, eating, and drinking. He has an app and sends me workouts that have been very helpful for maintenance on the road, but since I was in NY for a bulk of the summer, I was able to see him in person regularly at the gym he trains at. Starting in May and June, I’d begun lifting more weights, concentrating on strength and endurance, and it was beginning to show. I felt good going to Alex a bit ahead of the game—previously I had always gone to him when it felt already too late. With his help and guidance, I leaned up, felt strong, and was on the right path to getting to my goal.
