I always feel my heaviest at the end of summer. Despite spending so much time outside being active and having daily runs and swims, I just tend to come out less lean than I went in. I guess this can be explained by months of being on the road traveling, drinking copious ice cold beers in Greece (the only place I cannot control myself, pairing them with Lay’s oregano or tzatziki flavored chips), late night meals, and yes, more Negronis and G&Ts than usual. Now, this presents a problem for my wardrobe: Fall dressing is my favorite, and it also signals the return to more fitted garments and buttons after a season of drawstring shorts. That’s why I like to use September as a wellness reset, especially considering that many of us are going to be a little less active and perhaps indoors much more for the next six months.
One of my favorite people to turn to for expert health and wellness advice is Leo Wilhelmi. The fourth-generation director of German fasting clinic Buchinger Wilhelmi, Leo taught me about fasting responsibly, and his approach has now become a big part of my life. I recently hopped on a call with him about this topic, and he confirmed that end-of-summer lethargy isn’t just a mental feeling.
