My Spring 2025 Kit List

The jackets, layering pieces, and accessories I’ll be counting on this spring

I’ve made no secret about being less enthused about spring than I am the other seasons. There’s a romance to being reunited with a favorite tweed jacket at that first sign of fall, and an excitement to breaking out shorts when summer kicks into high gear. With its transitional temperatures and hard-to-pin-down weather, spring just doesn’t have the same strong and immediate associations.  

What it does require, however, is utility—particularly where rain is concerned. That’s why much of the list below is taken up with water-resisting outerwear and footwear, from waxed anoraks to Wellies. I also value clothing that works within the season’s rapidly changing conditions, which is why you’ll encounter lightweight knitwear, high-twist tailoring, vests, and my latest favorite in the French workman’s coat category.

That isn’t to say it’s all practicality: read to the bottom, and I’ll guarantee you’ll find a couple of genuine surprises, too.
