We are making our way to Japan for a friend’s birthday and decided to make a stop in Hong Kong along the way to break up the journey. This was my first trip to Hong Kong, and let’s say, the four days had me longing for more. We left Rome flying through Doha where a 8 hour layover (during Ramadan no less) found us at the Raffles Doha Hotel for a quick but indulgent stay. We arrived to an absolutely empty airport (because of the holiday), were collected, and made our way to the surreal architectural piece which is Raffles. We were quickly deposited in our suite, dropped bags, and headed to a great massage and soak. After that there was a Vegas style buffet for dinner at the hotel restaurant that had just endless choices of food—the highlights being the many choices of Middle Eastern delights (Jordanian fermented yogurt with rice and chicken…oh my). After dinner we had a bit of a rest and a hotel tour (an epic cigar lounge!) and then we were on our way to our 2 am flight to Hong Kong.
