Dispatch from Colombia
Epic fishing on the jungle coast of the Pacific Ocean and an inspiring dry aged fish restaurant in Medellin
I just came back from my first trip to Colombia. For a while now, my buddy Jon Fisher from the Urban Angler (my favorite fly shop) has been telling me that I needed to get down there to go fishing in Bahía de Solano for sailfish and tuna, amongst others. The timing never seemed to work because I was planning on a 10-12 day trip, and a window of that length of time wasn’t presenting itself. But when I found a 6 day opening in my schedule, I asked Jon if he thought that all the travel for essentially 2.5 days of fishing would be worth it. Not only did he say yes, he said he would join us, which was very exciting for me, because after knowing Jon for 30 years, I’d never actually fished with him before. My great friend Stephen Lewis (who photographed A Man and His Watch and A Man and His Kitchen, and shoots a lot for the magazine) joined us as well.
Now, like many great destinations, especially in the fishing world, it isn’t easy to get there. From New York there aren’t nonstop flights to Medellin–I’d looked at Avianca
